Should I Cut My Own Hair?
Answer a few quick questions and our Decision Guide will tell you if a DIY haircut is a good idea or a recipe for regret.

Cutting your own hair can work well if you're doing basic maintenance — trimming split ends, cleaning up a simple style, or buzzing a short cut. Where it falls apart is when people try dramatic changes, layers, or precise styles without experience or proper tools. Hair type matters too: straight hair is much more forgiving than curly hair, which shrinks when it dries and can end up far shorter than you intended. The safest approach is to only cut dry hair, use real hair-cutting shears (never kitchen scissors), and take off far less than you think you should. If you just need a trim between salon visits, go for it. If you're thinking about a whole new look, that's a job for a professional.
