Whether you should buy a house comes down to how long you plan to stay, what you can actually afford, and your financial safety net. If you'll be in the same area for at least five years, have a solid down payment saved, and can comfortably cover a mortgage without draining your emergency fund, buying usually beats renting long-term. But if you're unsure about your location, stretched thin financially, or buying mainly because you feel pressure to, renting gives you flexibility that's worth more than equity right now.
